What could be better than jetting off on holiday with your family in tow?
Those two weeks every summer are sacred and we spend the rest of the year dreaming about them.
That moment we step off the plane and feel the heat hit us, the excitement of the children as they race to be first into the pool and the long lazy days spent at the beach; holidays are all about family time and enjoying special moments together.
And fashion blogger Hannah Strafford-Taylor agrees. “When we go away we get to spend time together as a family,” she says. “I know it sounds a bit cheesy but that’s what I really like.”
So if you’re getting into holiday mode, why not start getting your whole family sorted too? It couldn’t be easier to find everything you’ll need for a stress-free stay thanks to Matalan’s Holiday Shop.
From beautiful clothes to fashionable swimwear and stylish suitcases to travel accessories, you’ll be able to make this summer the most stylish yet, all without breaking the bank.
So read on for Hannah’s styling tips, her holiday essentials and ideas for how you can rock the co-ordinates trend.
Hannah’s ‘How To Wear It’
Hannah wears Matalan Striped Dress (£16) and Block Heel Sandals (£12); Winter wears Girls Angel Sleeve Denim Dress (from £10) and Girls Cherry Sandals (£12)
Hannah was spoiled for choice with the latest Holiday collection from Matalan. Full of lightweight linens, pretty prints and beautiful detailing, it suits her feminine aesthetic to a tee.
“I love this striped dress,” she told us. “I like a square neck and I loved the length and the ruffle hem. It’s just a pretty, simple dress. And very flattering.”
And she was particularly impressed with the quality of the childrenswear line which was perfect for her daughters Soleil (8) and Winter (2).
“Matalan’s kidswear is so lovely,” she says. “I loved the chambray denim dress Winter had on. The fabric is so soft and the shape was beautiful. It’s very designer in style with its ruffle sleeves.”
Hannah wears Matalan Pom Pom Trim Skirt (£16), Green Camisole (£10) and Block Heel Sandals (£12); Soleil wears Girls Floral Occasion Dress (from £14) and carries Girls Daisy Straw Bag (£8)
As a fan of matching sets Hannah found that Matalan’s Holiday Collection gave her lots of options to play with for her next family getaway.
This embroidered skirt and top were a favourite: “It’s a nice colour, it’s vibrant,” she says. “I like green and it has little tassels which are very cute. It’s the kind of look you could dress up with a belt.”
And the sweet floral printed dress worn by Soleil (above) is perfect for a special occasion or balmy summer evening. “She loved the pink dress,” says Hannah. “It’s just very pretty and delicate.”
Soleil wears Matalan Girls Floral Dress (from £12); Hannah wears Scarf Print Cami (£9), Skirt (£14), Block Heel Sandals (£12) and Hexagonal Straw Bag (£14)
And Hannah isn’t afraid to wear a print from top-to-toe, a great tip for holiday dressing this year.
“The scarf print two-piece has a nice shape, with a dipped hem at the back and a ruffle around the bottom,” she says. “And it’s not too revealing around the top. It’s just a really great fitting set.”
And it was the detailing on the pretty flowery print frock on Soleil (above) that made this sleeveless style a must-have for their vacation.
Hannah wears Matalan Polka Dot Cami (£9), Skirt (£14), Block Heel Sandals (£12) and Hexagonal Straw Bag (£14); Soleil wears Girls Embroidered Playsuit (from £12) and carries Girls Daisy Straw Bag (£8)
One print which will always be on trend is the polka dot, so why not take it on holiday with you this summer, with this cool and breezy co-ord from Matalan?
“All of these outfits are versatile and would work in the evening and in the day. I’d wear them in the daytime with flats and dress them up in the evening with big earrings and a great pair of heels.”
And Soleil will definitely be taking this adorable playsuit away with her this summer. “Soleil’s favourite was the red romper,” Hannah says. “She loved the embroidery and the pom poms. She thought it was really cute.”
How to mix and match your co-ords this summer
Co-ords are a big trend but don’t be afraid to get creative.
“The green polka dot set is really flattering,” Hannah says. “But I like the fact that even though it looks like a dress, it’s actually separates so you can wear the top with jeans or the skirt with a jumper in the winter.
So if you want to make your two-piece looks go further, why not try the following outfit combinations or try one of your own?
L-R: Scarf Print Button Front Cami (£9), Matalan Denim Shorts (£14) and Gladiator Ring Buckle Sandals (£14) all Matalan
Take Hannah’s scarf print camisole (above) and tuck the front into this pair of turned up denim shorts, leaving the back loose. Add flat gladiator sandals and you’ve got a great summer weekend look sorted.
